Our very own Dr. Tawnya Pettiford-Wates, who was looking gorgeous in lime green, received, not only the PACME Faculty Award (Presidential Awards for Communigy Multicultural Enrichment), but also the Riese-Melton Award from Dr. Michael Rao on Wed. April 13, 2011.
As the VCU News Center said: "There’s a vast difference between talking about the importance of diversity and actually implementing it into everyday life. The leadership at Virginia Commonwealth University values that difference and each year commends faculty, staff and students with the Presidential Awards for Community Multicultural Enrichment for their efforts in promoting diversity at the university.
....Pettiford-Wates, who also won this year’s Riese-Melton Award, integrates ideals and fostering open dialogue in the areas of justice inclusion, cross-cultural awareness and equality."
And to quote Janet Rodgers who was at the Awards Ceremony "It was a very thrilling moment" when Dr. T was surprised with the capstone Riese-Melton Award.
When you see Dr. T. congratulate her!!
